Rest day

June 10 and Ed’s/Charlie’s 74th birthday. We toasted him with Armangnac tonight.

It was an easy peaceful day, truly restful. Only 10,500 steps! About 5 miles. We did laundry. Groceries. Lunch for the road tomorrow. I got our itinerary straightened out – rooms booked, canceled – because, oh no, the Gîte is actually in a town 5 miles from our intended point, and rebooked. Got Transport Claudine worked out for the next three legs. Just got to. Malle Postale who we used in the past, stops at Lectoure.

We did go to a small museum displaying artifacts from ancient paleolithic times and Roman treasures discovered nearby.

Many coins found in one hiding place.
Necklaces

Can you imagine… You receive word that invaders are coming. You hide your loot, intending to return for it. But you don’t or can’t.  Maybe you didn’t survive the siege. Maybe you survived  but can’t return. Thousands of years later, by happy accident, a trowel displaced some dirt, some rock and … behold!

Our Gîte – the bottom, large living room behind glass on left, bedroom behind glass on right, foyer and kitchen in center. Another apartment up and to the left in the half timbered side.

Great apartment, except no windows that open.

I just fell asleep 😴,  so it’s to bed!

Hi you two! Just caught up on your blog. Just fabulous. Enjoy it so much! Glad you are having such a wonderful travel.
We had so much fun seeing Europe for the first time. Definitely gave us the travel bug. Off to CA tomorrow for two weeks to see Dash, daughter and sister. Will be home then until November when the baby comes.
See you in July to share stories! Love, Pamela & Wade

Yes, a girl due mid November, so we will be in ABQ July thru Oct then back to help with new baby. Dash looked up at his daddy the other day and said, “So daddy, are you pregnant too?” Really love all your pictures and dialogue. So wonderful to really see the country and not just the big cities. We stayed in one tiny town in Switzerland, Berner Oberland, in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. I really wanted more time there. Absolutely gorgeous. Also Beaune France which was lovely. We’ll never catch up with you two but we have the travel bug! Hope you had a great birthday Charlie. Just couldn’t have been anywhere more beautiful for it!

We loved Beaune, too! Spent a few nights there on our honeymoon. How did Dash’s daddy respond? Maybe there’s some travel together in our future… I’m happy to know you appreciate my photos and commentary! Thanks for letting me know.

Keenan just laughed and said no Mommy’s the only one pregnant. I guess that left options open……

    Happy Birthday, Charlie!!!

Paula, your posts keep me laughing. I’m amazed you have the energy to think and type after a long day’s hike. Glad your body’s adapting quickly to the new routine. Less soreness – awesome!

What you’re learning from the locals about Macron dissolving the French parliament? The sign about money for the Ukraine war was interesting …

    Happy trails! Judy

I love hearing from you. My body – mostly my right foot…it does not like long – more than 12 miles, say. Today was 17. So. It’s quite sore and gets less able to be flexible. Walking sticks are quite helpful.
